Business Administration Skills for NHS Career

Lauren Furniss joined the Business Administration course looking for a fresh start and a new direction in her career. With an interest in the public sector, she was particularly keen to learn more about the role of administrators within the NHS. Her aim was to build a solid understanding of what’s involved in the day-to-day work and gain the confidence to move into an administrative role.

From the beginning, Lauren showed real commitment to her learning. She was especially engaged in the communication and NHS-focused units, which gave her practical insights into how teams work together and how staff interact with patients. These sessions helped her develop key skills in written communication, organisation, and professional behaviour — all essential for working in administration.

Lauren was enthusiastic throughout the course and took on board feedback to keep improving. Her hard work and positive attitude paid off — since completing the course, she has successfully secured a role as an NHS administrator. This marks an exciting new chapter in her career and reflects her dedication to developing new skills and making a meaningful change.

Tutor Comments

“Lauren worked really hard from day one. She always put effort into her work and wasn’t afraid to ask questions or take on feedback. It’s been great to see her progress and grow in confidence — and now she’s secured a role in the NHS, which is such a brilliant achievement.”

Lauren's Feedback

“I signed up for the course because I wanted to try something new and push myself in a different direction. I really liked the communication unit — it made me realise how important it is to get your message across clearly, especially in a busy workplace. I also found it really interesting learning about how staff in the NHS work with patients in different situations. I enjoyed coming to the sessions and always felt like I was learning something useful. The feedback from my tutor really helped too — I’ve already started using it to improve how I write.”
